Meet Roy!

10 Oct

Ahhh, what a week!

I’ve been so incredibly busy this week! Things are really picking up with school (as though they weren’t already…) and I think I’ve been juggling about five projects at all times.  However, I did get to start a new video project last weekend that’s been a lot of fun.  Our newest assignment was in partnership with Special Olympics of Miami-Dade County.  There were a variety of directions that we could all take our individual projects and I decided to do a profile of one specific athlete and his family for mine.

Meet Roy!

Roy & A friend from school

Roy is a 17-year-old with down syndrome.  He and his family were so great! They were willing to open their home to me and put up with my camera and all of my questions.  Right now, Roy is on his high school bowling team as well as a community league that he bowls in with his younger brother.  He’s also competed in basketball, cycling and soccer over the years.  In addition to bowling, Roy attends public high school, has a tutor that comes over once a week and works twice a week at the grocery store near his home. He’s a busy boy!

Showing their UM pride!

I had so much fun getting to know Roy.  He’s got such a great sense of humor and is just a joy to be around!  Hopefully my video project will turn out well and you’ll get to see Roy and his family’s story here soon.

Until then, it’s back to work!
